Damp Proofing / Water Proofing

Waterproofing will result in the driest possible basement. All causes of water seepage are addressed. Experts agree that the very best method to deal with water intrusion is on the outside where the problems exist.

If any one tells you different, they are attempting to sell you an interior water control system. No work is necessary inside of the basement when true basement waterproofing is performed, as all of the water is kept outside where it belongs.

Basement waterproofing requires excavating to the footing, or the bottom of the foundation, replacing both sets of drainage tile, footing and downspout, and treating the walls. An important difference is in the material used to waterproof the walls.

Most companies are using the same sealant that was being used twenty years ago, tar. Tar is not waterproofing, it is damp proofing. Tar has no flexibility and quickly will crack. With the seal compromised, the whole process of dampness leading to cracking leading to water, begins again.

Water Proof Membrane

A water-proof membrane is a moisture-inhibiting foil that is 100% watertight. Thus damp – which exists in the surrounding air in the form of condensation – is prevented from penetrating the membrane.

The water-proof membrane only does what it is supposed to do if it has been fitted perfectly . This means that all joints need to be sealed off and connections to other parts of the building need to be kit-sealed.

A water-proof membrane prevents moisture – which exists in the surrounding air in the form of condensation – from penetrating. In doing so, the membrane acts to protect the underlying materials against water penetration.

Water Proof Material Types

• Liquid base waterproofing has a limited time 3 Years from application. Which is not advice-able in a below ground application.

• Damp Proof Membrane foils are most widely used because of ease of installation but has a disadvantage in the duration of its effectiveness and peals off in time.

• Another solution is a bituminous course which (Cracks with the Cement) and becomes powder through time.

• The best solution is a application of an Anti corrosive, Sealed type, Continuous Membrane that we not decomposed. "Water Proofing Liner"
